This project was referred to Timberbuilt by Doug Turnbull from T D & C Consulting Engineers who recognised that Timberbuilt could bring their specialist timber engineering design knowledge and fabrication capability to complement the design concept to the best advantage of their client. This portal frame structure uses durable White Cypress glued laminated timber jointed at the rafter and column intersections with curved galvanised steel plates fixed with tight fitting bolts to provide the moment rigidity required to develop portal frame action. The combination of diagonal bracing with longitudinal wall girts and base fixity achieved using steel UB sections with the webs slotted into the columns and embedded to mass concrete footings provides longitudinal stability. All timber components for the structure were fully prefabricated by Timberbuilt ready for assembly and supplied with all brackets, bracing and fasteners together with assembly drawings for the guidance of installation by the builder.
